Service Crowns

Crowns and bridges usually take 2 or 3 appointments to complete. On the first appointment, the tooth/teeth are prepared, impressions are taken, and a temporary crown is placed on your tooth/teeth.
You may experience sensitivity, gum soreness, and slight discomfort on the tooth/teeth; it should subside after the placement of the permanent crown(s).
Whenever anesthesia is used, avoid chewing on your teeth until the numbness has worn off.
A temporary crown is usually made of plastic-based material or soft metal. It can break if too much pressure is placed on it. The crown may also come off; if it does, save the crown and call our office. The temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth and prevent other teeth from moving. If it comes off it should be replaced as soon as possible. To avoid losing your temporary, do not chew on sticky or hard food (chewing gum, ice). Try to chew on the opposite side of the temporary as much as possible.

Continue your normal brushing but be careful while flossing around the temporaries (remove the floss gently from the side). If it is difficult to get the floss between the temporary and surrounding teeth, refrain from flossing until you receive your permanent crown.

After the permanent restoration is placed you may feel slight pressure for a few days. Also, the bite may feel different for a day or two. But if after 2-3 days the bite still feels uneven or if you feel discomfort when chewing on the tooth, call our office. Delaying the necessary adjustments may damage the tooth permanently.

Call our office if you are in pain or if you have any questions.

People Are Rating Mad About Their Independence Dental Experience

  • . . . The CLEANEST and most MODERN office I have ever seen.

Yesterday I had the worst toothache of my life. My regular dentist's office was closed and with all the crazy stuff happening in the world I didn't want to go to the emergency room. After searching online I  was fortunate enough to come across the Independence Dental Group. Dr. Steven Gelbart had just opened this new practice which is the cleanest and most modern office I have ever seen. Dr. Gelbart and his staff were accommodating, caring, and treated me with respect. I needed a root canal on an upper tooth, and it didn't hurt at all! The entire process took an hour and I was able to watch butterflies move across a TV screen the whole time.

I never thought I could enjoy being at the dentist!

  • Undoubtedly the best dental experience I've had in years!

All the equipment is new and advanced. The staff is amazing and the Dentist was very nice, thorough, and informative.

  • Dr. Gelbart is a great dentist .. and the staff is Excellent!

I had to go in today because I was having pain in my mouth I knew I needed a root canal, but he told me that the tooth couldn’t be saved so he had to pull it. I was soo nervous cause I had to get it pulled and I didn’t want to deal with the pain. He told me it will be alright and all I would feel is pressure.

His assistant held my hand the whole time which I was grateful for because I had support!!! Even tho I was crying while he was doing it and screaming a bit lol he made me feel comfortable and spoke words of encouragement! He is an excellent dentist and a nice person who knows his stuff. I would highly recommend him!

  • I Felt more like a patient than just $$ signs!

Came to this office scared out my mind. Needed some dental work done. The staff was super nice... the office was very clean and very modern looking. Felt more like a patient then just $$ signs. I Recommend this office for sure!

  • If you looking for a new dental office this the place to be!

Let me start by saying this... I was in so much pain Friday and Saturday with a bad toothache. Scared to go to the dentist due to the COVID 19. I took a chance and looked up an emergency dentist. Scored big time!! Dr. Gelbart talked to me Saturday night and said he will come in on his day off Sunday!!

I’m a new patient that was in need of a dentist... ASAP!! He was the bomb!! When I tell you that he gave me an X-ray told me I need a tooth abstract due to a chip decay tooth in the back.  I’m scared.. for what? Lol.. He did his thing!! I didn’t feel anything!! Thank you, Doc! Guess what??? I’m one of his new patients along with my family. Great dentist office, great Dr. and it’s nice and clean. Love it!

  • Dr. Steve Gelbart is an incredible dentist, he relieved my tooth pain, installed perfect implants, and did so quickly and without pain.

He has an amazing new office in Philadelphia, filled with brand new, state of the art equipment and technology. Independence Dental is great and not your average dental practice. Dr. Steve Gelbart will make you smile!

  • . . . they fixed my problem with a great smile in one day.

Great dentist, the facility was clean and modern they fixed my problem with a great smile in one day.

  • . . . I didn't even know when he pulled my tooth

Clean office my first time there was so scare and he walked me through it and I didn't know when he pull my tooth out he is really good and the secretary was so nice.

  • What got me was the compassion and heart of Dr. Gelbart!

Let me start with how I have been suffering to get some relief from my pain for 4 months now. I was having pain in my upper jaw above my one tooth and felt difficulty breathing like there was a blockage of some sort all day every day and I found out by a family member about Dr. Gelbart.

I have gone to numerous doctors, dentists, and an endodontist to try and find some relief where no one could help me find some relief or an answer why. I went to an Ent, to my regular doctor which they did their best to try and help me had a cat scan a number of Xrays AND COULDN'T See anything wrong.

What got me was the compassion and heart Dr. Gelbart had to see me and the expertise to be able to do an x-ray and see the problem RIGHT OFF THE BAT and recommended that the tooth be removed DUE TO A CYST and have an implant done, once they removed the tooth and cyst I finally got relief that all the dentists I went to said they didn't see anything.

If anyone wants to know a good place and see my review this man cares about his patients and people and is a good man and I can see the way he treated me and was honest with me about everything he saw and it's hard to find a dentist these days who's about the patients and I respect that about him thank you so much.

I finally found out what was wrong and finally can heal. And start the process of my very first implant if this man is able to look and see from the Xrays when others couldn't very professional and experienced highly recommend this Dr.

  • Dr. Gelbart is the best. Also, the new office is beautiful, and the location is great.

I've been going to Dr. Gelbart for several years now, and I've recommended him to all my friends/family. He's a great dentist, has a great chairside manner, and he's a good guy. I started seeing him when I lived in Center City. I'm now in the suburbs, but I still go into city to see Dr. Gelbart for dental care...he's the best. Also, his new office is beautiful, and the location is great.

  • I'm incredibly grateful and extremely impressed with the quality of service I received,

Dr. Gelbart and his staff are absolutely incredible. I ended up having to come in for an emergency tooth extraction, He and his staff stayed late until I got there and removed a tooth that was causing me a great deal of pain. I'm incredibly grateful and extremely impressed with the quality of service and I received, the cleanliness and beauty of the facility, and the extremely fair cost I paid after. I highly recommend Independence Dental and Dr. Gelbart.
